I do not have a green thumb. I had a cactus on my desk for a year and killed it. A cactus. I can take care of kids and pets without issue. Plants are not exactly vocal about their needs, so I just kind of forget about them. That being said, I think it’s time to find the right plant for me.

Someone at the office suggested a rubber plant as they are supposedly low-maintenance. I don’t know if it’s less maintenance than a cactus, but I’m sold. Now I want to see one in person.

Rubber plants are often used as focal points in small homes and apartments for home décor. They can grow to pretty impressive heights within only a few years. If you’re not sure if you’ve ever seen a rubber plant, and you’re curious about just how big they can grow, one local restaurant has a 36-year-old plant inside.

I’ve lived in Dartmouth my entire life. Friendly Pizza is kind of a staple in town. I just realized that there is a giant rubber plant in the middle of the restaurant and I’ve never questioned it in my life.

I can’t be the only one who just accepted this tree’s existence without question. So I called the landmark and found out that the owner’s brother gifted it to him and it’s been in the restaurant since 1984. The restaurant used to be divided into smoking and nonsmoking sections. The large leaves were supposed to catch some of the smell as rubber plants improve indoor air quality by absorbing airborne chemicals and break them down. They can also eliminate bacteria and mold spores in the air.

With windows like these, why wouldn’t you keep a plant like this in your establishment?
