Americans tend to think the Army is the most important branch of the military when it comes to the defense of our nation. That's the opinion of 26-percent of people responding to a Gallup Poll.

After that, the Air Force comes in with 23-percent of respondents saying it's the most important for national defense. The Marines are third at 19 percent, followed by the Navy at 17 percent. The Coast Guard had the votes of three-percent of respondents.

While Americans tend to rely on the Army, they apparently idolize the Marines. When the question is which branch of the military is the most prestigious, the Marines easily top the poll with 47-percent. The Air Force is a distant second at 17-percent, while the Army is right behind at 12-percent. (Metro Networks Inc.)
