The founder of Not Your Average Joe's is now adding to his restaurant empire by purchasing The Black Whale Seafood and Raw Bar on New Bedford's waterfront.

According to the Herald News,Stephen Silverstein is buying the Black Whale from Albert J. Santos, who also owns Carmine's in New Bedford and the Thirsty Whale in Dartmouth.

The Black Whale is located at 106 MacArthur Drive near Pier 3, and the closing on the sale is scheduled for this month. The restaurant will continue to operate as the Black Whale.  The sale price was not disclosed.

Silverstein founded the original Not Your Average Joe's in Dartmouth in 1994 and is a licensee of more than 20 Not Your Average Joe's restaurants in six states.

His family also founded Silverstein's, a family-run clothing store in New Bedford that closed in 1997 after nearly 100 years in business.
