New Charges After Alleged Assault on Officer by New Bedford Woman
NEW BEDFORD - A New Bedford woman that was arrested early Tuesday morning on drug charges in Dartmouth is under arrest again following her arraignment in Third District Court.
New Bedford Police say Brittney Arsenault, 18, was in the parking lot of New Bedford District Court early Tuesday afternoon after being arraigned on charges of possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, conspiracy to violate drug laws, and assault and battery on a police officer.
A court officer noticed Arsenault was engaged in a heated discussion with a family member and attempted to intervene. When Arsenault refused to calm down, the officer was forced to subdue her, bringing her to the ground and placing Arsenault in handcuffs.
As Arsenault was being escorted back into the courthouse, a New Bedford Police Detective began to assist the court officer when Arsenault allegedly kicked the detective in the stomach.
Arsenault was officially arrested, just 12 hours after her initial arrest in Dartmouth.
Arsenault now faces new charges including disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and assault and battery on a police officer.
