The New Bedford City Council is set to consider borrowing $5 million for extensive repairs to one of the City's two parking garages.

Council President Brian Gomes says the Elm Street Parking Garage has been in decline for years, and needs a lot of attention. "You've got to remember, we have a structure that is located in our seaport. We suffer that salt, the fog, the rain, that I think does things to structures," said Gomes.

Gomes says the $5 million would go towards remodeling, reconstruction, and other repairs pertaining to lighting, security, and more in the garage, including a new look to the building's facade. The loan would be borrowed in two phases.

The Council will vote on the matter during Thursday night's regular meeting.
