New Bedford’s Building #19 Water Tank is Demolished

NEW BEDFORD - Say goodbye to something of a landmark in New Bedford.

The water tank at the former Building #19 site on Hathaway Road was dismantled this morning.

For decades, the water tank served as a sort of billboard for the discount store, featuring many of the beloved cartoons that have become associated with Building #19 and its founder, Jerry Ellis.

At the beginning of 2017, the property at 19 Hathaway Road was purchased by Washburn Realty, LLC.

Building #19 filed for bankruptcy in 2013, and the New Bedford location has been vacant since then.
