New Bedford’s Zeiterion Performing Arts Center has lifted its COVID-19 protocols, effective today.

“The pandemic has thankfully progressed to the point where we no longer require proof of vaccination or a negative test at Zeiterion performances. Masks are not required, but are encouraged,” The Z posted to its website.

However, The Z did leave the door open for protocols to return in particular instances.

“Should an artist request proof of vaccination/negative test and/or face masks, these measures will be reinstated for that particular performance,” the website reads.

The Z will continue to offer only touchless e-tickets for all performances. The e-tickets may be printed out, or patrons can just display them on a mobile device for scanning. Playbills will also continue to be digital only.

In September of 2021, the Zeiterion put into place COVID-19 protocols that required all guests and staff to show proof of full vaccination or either a negative COVID test within the last three days (PCR test) or within the past 24 hours (antigen test).

The Z also required that all guests age 12 and up, as well as facility staff, wear face masks at all times when not eating or drinking, regardless of vaccination status.

The BA.5 Omicron subvariant has everyone keeping a cautious eye on the COVID numbers in the Commonwealth. Should COVID-19 cases spike again with the latest variants, the Zeiterion may have to reinstitute the protocols.

“We will continue to monitor healthy and safety guidelines and will adjust our policies if necessary,” The Z wrote.
