NEW BEDFORD — While on duty Monday afternoon, members of the New Bedford Police Narcotics Unit witnessed a woman entering a man's car at Linden and Purchase Streets. The car then drove into the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Mt. Pleasant Street.

When police approached the vehicle, the couple was engaged in sexual activity.

Arrested were Joaquim Carvalho, 76, of Mott Street, New Bedford. He's charged with sexual conduct for a fee. Also arrested was Lynn Paull, 49, of Purchase Street, New Bedford.  She faces the same charges.

Police report that Paull has failed to show up in court 42 times. The woman has been continually charged with the same crimes and defaulting on warrants.

The district attorney's office requested that her bail be set at $5,000, but the judge set bail at $2,500. The arrests were made Monday at 4:25 pm.
