New Bedford Woman Killed in Car Wash Shooting Identified
FALL RIVER — The victim of the fatal shooting at a car wash in Fall River earlier on Memorial Day has been identified as 45-year-old Jessenia Simmons of New Bedford — and a Fall River man is being charged with murder in the case.
The Bristol County District Attorney's Office said 33-year-old Angelo O. Leo turned himself in to police in Rhode Island after Simmons was found dead in a Fall River car wash bay this afternoon.
Fall River police were called to the Globe Car Wash on Broadway at 12:36 p.m. on Monday, May 29 for a reported shooting.
First responders arrived to find Simmons already deceased, according to the D.A.'s office.
Prosecutors said Leo at first fled in a vehicle from the scene, but turned himself in to Tiverton, R.I. police about half an hour later.
The D.A.'s office said Leo will appear in a Newport County Court on Tuesday as a fugitive from justice.
If he waives rendition, Leo may be taken to Fall River District Court for arraignment some time later on Tuesday.
The murder investigation is still active and ongoing.
