
Police Charge Two After Separate Gun Incidents in New Bedford
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford Police responded to two separate firearms-related incidents this past weekend, with two people facing charges as a result.
Accidental Shooting on North Front Street
First, police were dispatched just after 11:30 p.m. on February 14 to a residence on North Front Street for a report of an accidental discharge of a firearm.
The officers learned upon arrival that a man had been moving his firearm when it accidentally discharged, striking another individual. That person was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The gun owner was charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and improper storage of a firearm.

Shots Fired at Car Barn Apartments
About 30 minutes later, officers responded to the area of Purchase Street for a report of shots fired. Officers located shell casings in the roadway near the Car Barn Apartments. According to police, multiple exterior windows of the building were damaged, along with interior damage to the ceiling and walls of three apartments.

Suspect Charged in Car Barn Incident
Police identified Jose Carvalho, 44, as the suspect in the incident. They said he does not possess a valid Massachusetts License to Carry or a Firearms Identification Card. He was charged with possession of ammunition without an FID card, and police said additional charges may be forthcoming as the incident remains under investigation.
