New Bedford Woman Shocked by $50 Bread Price at Trucchi’s
With the constant stream of negative and uneventful news in the world, it’s nice to take a break and enjoy a lighthearted story that will make you chuckle.
Grocery prices may be climbing, but one New Bedford woman had a real shock at the checkout line when she almost paid $49.27 for a loaf of Portuguese bread.
Yes, you read that price right, even though the price was wrong.

On March 20, Lynn Connor was shopping at Trucchi’s in the North End when her total at the register seemed unusually high. With only a few items in her cart, she was stunned when the cashier rang her up for $76.
The culprit: a mislabeled loaf of freshly-baked Portuguese bread carrying a staggering price tag of $49.27.
Now, I’m guessing it was supposed to be $4.27, or $4.92, and the decimal point was wrong or another number was accidentally pressed. Luckily, the young man bagging her groceries caught the mistake before she had to dish out $40-$50 more than she needed.
She also couldn’t help but poke fun at the sell-by date printed on the packaging.
“The best part is it must be super bread because the sell-by date is May 5,” she joked. “I’m guessing the price is extra because of the mold it will be growing by then.”
While the mistake was caught in time, Connor’s experience serves as a reminder to double-check price tags, especially if you’re not looking to take out a loan for your next grocery run.
