New Bedford to See Downtown Traffic Detours February 3-8

NEW BEDFORD -- Contractors are working all over the city these days on projects ranging from South Coast Rail preparation to gas main replacement.

For the week of Feb. 3-8, potential road closures during working hours have been announced on both Cottage Street and Elm Street.

According to the City of New Bedford:

• A contractor will begin water and sewer replacement along Cottage Street between and Sycamore Street. During working hours, Cottage Street may be closed to thru traffic with access by local traffic only at times. Southbound traffic will be detoured via Pope Street or Campbell Street, and northbound traffic will be detoured via Sycamore Street or Willis Street. Detour signage, police details and traffic controls will be in place.
• A contractor will continue construction of a new pumping station and site utilities at a Front Street/Elm Street site. A section of Elm Street between Rt. 18 and MacArthur Drive will be closed to westbound traffic. Westbound traffic will be detoured via MacArthur Drive.
• In related news, Eversource will begin replacing gas mains on sections of South Street. Woodlawn Street, Clifford Street, Myrtle Street, Summer Street, Brownell Street, and Jonathan Street.
