The extraordinarily beautiful St. Anthony of Padua Church in New Bedford just received a heaven-sent offering from Pepin’s Men’s and Boys' Apparel. The Acushnet Avenue apparel shop, which was founded in 1985, closed its doors forever last week.

Gisele Pappas, one of the Saint Anthony Ladies Together volunteers, couldn’t contain her excitement.

“Pepin’s donated all their brand new men’s and boy’s clothing to the church, so we’re announcing our ‘Indoor Men’s and Boys' Clothing Sale,'" she said.

“You won’t believe the bargains," she said. "We have a handsome selection of new sport jackets, sizes 37 to 60 in short, regular, long and portly, only $5. We have unhemmed beautiful dress pants, sizes 27 through 60, for $3, and brand new dress shirts with the tags still attached for a dollar."

Pappas said the sizes range from extra-small to a 4X leather jacket.

Over 900 pieces of new clothing donated from the well-known haberdashery in the North End.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t get a direct comment from Pepin’s because the phone was already taken out of service.

All monies will be put into the general operating fund of the church.

Why is St. Anthony of Padua famous? New Bedford is a world famous fishing port, and St. Anthony is most celebrated as the patron saint of fishermen, sailors, sea tragedies and shipwrecks, among many others, including the saint of lost things.

The hours for this amazing clothing sale are Wednesday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Thursday, April 27 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Coincidentally, the church's twice-yearly yard sale will take place on April 29 and 30 from 9 a.m. to 1p.m. and will offer any unsold clothing, plus household items and furniture.
