NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A couple of key overnight detours will affect New Bedford traffic this week.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has announced two overnight detours that will take place on Wednesday, August 7 and Thursday, August 8 as MassDOT crews perform ancillary structure inspections on the ramps that connect Interstate 195 to Route 18.

The inspections will take place each night from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m.

Wednesday, August 7

On Wednesday, I-195 westbound Exit 26 to Route 18 southbound will be closed. Those traveling westbound on I-195 will continue to Exit 24A toward Route 140 southbound, take Exit 2A toward I-95 eastbound, continue to straight on I-195 eastbound, and then take Exit 26 for Route 18 southbound.

Thursday, August 8

On Thursday, the Route 18 north exit to I-195 westbound will be closed. Those traveling on Route 18 northbound will continue straight on Route 18, turn right onto Coggeshall Street, continue straight on Coggeshall, and then turn right onto the exit to I-195 westbound.

Drivers traveling through the area should expect delays, reduce speed and use caution, MassDOT said.

All scheduled work is weather dependent.
