After five years and $30 million in projects, renovations to the New Bedford Regional Airport are finally complete.

The final stage of the renovation program was the $13 million reconstruction of Runway 5/23.

State Senator and Cape Air CEO Dan Wolf says the improvements to the airport benefit both the public and private sectors.

Most of the funding for the project came from the federal and state levels, while the remainder was covered by the city.

The runway was expanded by 400 feet to a total of 5,400 feet and now has a grooved tarmac that will drain water off the runway.

These renovations will improve the safety of the airport's infrastructure.
