New Bedford Fire Chief Michael Gomes has been advocating for new fire engines since becoming Chief nearly four years ago. On Tuesday, he got his wish.

Mayor Jon Mitchell unveiled two new fire engines outside City Hall. The Pierce Arrow XT engines will pump 1,500 gallons of water per minute, and are the most corrosion-resistant fire equipment the Cty has ever owned.

Chief Gomes says he's grateful to the Mayor for authorizing the purchase.....

The new engines went on line on Sunday. They'll replace two other engines, that were purchased in 1989, 25 years ago.
