New Bedford Restaurant Levels Up Brunch With Portuguese Bloody Maria
A New Bedford restaurant just put a SouthCoast spin on a brunch classic and it all starts with linguica, cheese rolls, and one seriously decked-out Bloody Mary – or as it is now known, the "Bloody Maria."
If you’re the kind of person who judges a brunch spot by the creativity of its cocktails, Royal T on Acushnet Avenue just raised the bar. Literally.
Located inside the former Chuck’s China Inn at 1856 Acushnet Avenue, Royal T officially opened on July 28, 2024, and has quickly carved out a name for itself in New Bedford’s food and drink scene.

At the center of the buzz is Royal T’s signature drink: the "Portuguese Bloody Maria," a bold, savory take on the traditional Bloody Mary that swaps in a show-stopping twist.
Bacon Vodka and "Portuguese Poppers" Take Center Stage
Instead of your typical vodka, this version uses Bakon Vodka, a bacon-flavored spirit that adds smoky richness with every sip. But that’s just the beginning.
The real head-turner? The cocktail comes garnished with a warm, cheesy, bite-sized linguiça cheese roll that I have unofficially dubbed the "Portuguese Popper."
This isn’t just for show. It’s a flavorful snack perched on top of your glass, marrying chourico spice with melty cheese.
It's an absolute game changer.

A Flavor That Feels Like Home
“I wanted to do something different that no one has,” owner Ashley Frates said. “You can get a Bloody Mary anywhere, but no one else offers one with Portuguese flair, and since I'm a diehard Michael's [Provisions] chourico fan, I wanted to incorporate it into a staple brunch piece.”
The combo of zesty tomato, smoky bacon vodka, and that savory "Portuguese Popper" makes for a cocktail that’s as comforting as it is creative. It’s Instagram-worthy, crowd-pleasing, and totally New Bedford.
Whether you’re a brunch regular or just curious about what’s brewing behind the bar, Royal T is quickly becoming a must-stop spot on the Ave.
Cheers.
