New Bedford Police Warn of Impostors Trying to Gain Access to Homes
NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Police say they have received reports of two men posing as City workers trying to gain access to area homes.
In a Facebook post on Friday, New Bedford Police say they have been informed by the Department of Public Infrastructure that members of the department have received reports of two men going door-to-door in New Bedford. The men claim they work for the Department of Public Infrastructure and attempt to gain access to houses by telling residents that their houses' water is compromised. The men say they are at the home to inspect the water.
The reported impostors are said to be driving an unmarked silver van.
Police say legitimate DPI employees always carry official badges and drive marked City vehicles, not unmarked vehicles.
Suspicious activity should be reported to the New Bedford Police Department's Communication Division at 508-991-6350.
The reports are similar to reports of two men in Fall River claiming to represent a tree-removal company and luring homeowners away from their property while one of the men robs their home.
