The only thing standing between chaos and freedom are the local police. The leadership of the police unions is crucial to our Republic and the unions must choose wisely.

New Bedford has a great group of men and women on its police department. The city has more than its share of problems; in fact, it is a dumping ground for the problems of other communities in the Bay State. Night and day, the professionals of the New Bedford Police Department do a job that is necessary but increasingly under attack.

Hank Turgeon is the current president of the New Bedford Police Union. The citizens of the Whaling City are lucky to have a police officer of his caliber. The citizens are even luckier to have a high-quality police department that elects a man like Turgeon to be its union president. The interests of the citizens and the police department are joined together but only the men and women of the department vote on who will be their president.

The radicals are lying about the New Bedford Police Department. The radicals want the arrest of four New Bedford police officers who were involved in a justified shooting almost a decade ago. The shooting was cleared by President Obama’s Justice Department, the Massachusetts Attorney General, and the Bristol County District Attorney. It was a tragedy, and thankfully the officer who was stabbed by the young man survived the attack.

Almost a decade later, the radicals want those four officers fired and charged with murder.

As others ran away, there was one constant fountain of truth on the matter. Hank Turgeon understands the realities of the moment when an officer has to use his weapon to protect the rest of the innocent world. The president of the New Bedford Police Union has never abandoned the truth and he has never attempted to take the pressure off of himself by questioning the split-second decision of the officers who had to shoot the person who had just stabbed their fellow officer.

Turgeon is a serious person who has a serious job. His job is to stand up for the men and women who stand up for the people who can’t do it for themselves on the streets. His job as the president of the union is to stand up to the politicians and the radicals who want to defund and imprison the members of his department.

If you see a New Bedford Police officer, say thanks for what they do and say thanks for electing Hank Turgeon.
