New Bedford Police arrested a man they say robbed a bank last week in the North End.

34-year-old David Frates has been charged with masked armed robbery and putting a person in fear for the purpose of stealing, after police say he held up the St. Anne's Credit Union on Acushnet Avenue last Tuesday at gunpoint.

The one week investigation led police to Frates' Phillips Avenue apartment, where he was arrested Monday night without incident. He was arraigned Tuesday morning in New Bedford District Court.

Frates is known to police, as he was sentenced to 4-6 years in prison for two New Bedford bank robberies.

Police are continuing their investigation into last week's robbery. If you have any information, call Detective William Westgate at 508-991-6300 ext. 136.
