New Bedford Police Hosting Toy Drive
With the holiday season in full effect, the spirit of giving comes alive here on the SouthCoast, and the New Bedford Police Department is hosting a toy drive to bring joy to children in need. Led by Assistant Chief Scott Carolla, this initiative highlights the department’s commitment to fostering community connections and spreading holiday cheer.
The annual toy drive is scheduled for Saturday, December 14th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Walmart in Dartmouth, where people are encouraged to drop off toys. The event promises a festive atmosphere with a special appearance by Santa Claus himself—dressed uniquely in a blue suit as a nod to his support of the police.
“This is our way of helping families who might not otherwise be able to provide gifts for their children this Christmas,” said Assistant Chief Carolla. “The generosity of the community allows us to ensure that the neediest children wake up to something special on Christmas morning.”
A Festive Day with Santa
Adding to the holiday cheer, Santa Claus will make a special appearance at the toy drive, donning a unique blue suit to show his support for the police.
“Santa has a soft spot for police officers,” Carolla said with a smile. "I’m sure his elves are ironing his suit as we speak.”
How to Donate
Community members are encouraged to participate by donating toys at the event or dropping them off at New Bedford Police Headquarters at 871 Rockdale Avenue or the South End station, both open 24/7. For those unable to deliver their donations, the department is offering to pick them up if contacted through their Facebook page.
“We rely on the generosity of people who find it in their hearts to go shopping and bring toys to us. Together, we can make a big difference.”
Join the New Bedford Police Department and Santa Claus at Walmart in Dartmouth on December 14th to help make this holiday season memorable for the less fortunate families.
