New Bedford Police Arrest Suspect in Tallman Street Shooting
NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Police announced an arrest has been made in connection with a February 6 shooting at 78 Tallman Street that left two victims wounded by gunshots.
On the morning of Monday, February 22, New Bedford Police detectives arrested Lyrik A. Vernosky Caraballo, 23, of 3 Abbott Street, Apt. 1S. He was charged with two counts of assault and battery by discharge of a firearm, two counts of armed assault to murder, and multiple counts of firearms-related offenses.
Just after midnight on Feb. 6, police responded to a call for shots fired at the Tallman Street location. Two victims were located and transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Both victims survived.
Detective Jason Gangi, lead investigator of this case, is also a task force officer working with the U.S. Marshal’s Service and MA State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section. Assisted by members of this collective, Detective Gangi began a search for the suspect, which led to the subsequent arrest.
Caraballo is currently on probation stemming from a drug distribution conviction last year.
