New Bedford Man Arrested for Fatal Shooting in Myles Standish State Forest
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — The suspect in the fatal shooting of a New Bedford man in Myles Standish State Forest last month has been arrested.
According to Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz, John Geovanni Pires Monteiro Macedo, 20, was arrested at an apartment in New Bedford at about 3:55 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, and was arrested without incident.
He will be arraigned Monday in Plymouth District Court on one count of murder relating to the July 12 fatal shooting of Robert Aponte-Flores, 25, of New Bedford, after an alleged altercation reported by witnesses between the two in the picnic area near Fearing Pond.
Plymouth Police responded to several 911 calls for a reported shooting at the state forest and arrived to find Aponte-Flores suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess-Plymouth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation led to Massachusetts State Police seeking and obtaining an arrest warrant for Monteiro Macedo on July 14.
