NEW BEDFORD — On his weekly WBSM appearance on Thursday, New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell was asked about the location of a potential marijuana dispensary in the city's North End.

The City Council recently voted unanimously to refer letters to committee from attorney Edward J. Sylvia, Jr. on behalf of his client. The letter states that the proposed site is in New Bedford's Industrial Zone B, located in a setback lot behind Brodeur & Sons Heating and Air Conditioning.

Mayor Mitchell says that location, just off Church Street, Tarkiln Hill Road, and King's Highway is still close to a neighborhood, as well as several other businesses. He added that residents of that area may not be thrilled to have a marijuana dispensary nearby.

The city has a moratorium on retail marijuana sales in place until September 30.
