New Bedford Man Robs Woman, Threatens Good Samaritan with Pocket Knife
NEW BEDFORD - A New Bedford man is arrested for robbing a woman and then threatening a good Samaritan with a knife.
Police say 44-year-old Jesus Antonio Torres robbed a woman of her sweater in the area of Phillips and Acushnet Avenue before 4 p.m. Thursday. Another man tried to intercede, but backed down after Torres allegedly swung a pocket knife at him.
Working on a description, police found Torres near North Front and Nye Streets.
As he was being arrested, Torres kicked an officer and smashed the rear window of a police cruiser with his foot.
Torres is charged with unarmed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, malicious damage to a motor vehicle, malicious destruction of property under $250, disorderly conduct, and assault and battery on a police officer.
