A New Bedford man is part of a FEMA response team, aiding the people of New Jersey left devastated by Hurricane Sandy.  Mike McCormack is a disaster assistance employee with the Federal Emergency Management Administration.  He's based at a naval station at Colt's Neck, New Jersey, about 20 miles from the Jersey Shore.

McCormack tells WBSM News, he hasn't been to the shoreline yet where damage is the greatest, but he has seen lots of disruption in and around Colt's Neck.

McCormack says his job is to help provide information to the public on what programs are available to improve their situation.  He's also keeping public officials updated on the recovery process.  McCormack previously worked as an aide to former Mayor Fred Kalisz in New Bedford.
