Two Dead of Heroin Overdoses in New Bedford
Two New Bedford men are dead after suspected drug overdoses.
Police say they responded to a home on Dudley Street in the South End around 9am Tuesday morning. When they arrived, police found a 42-year-old man who was not breathing. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Detective Captain Steven Vicente says the man was known to police, and drug paraphernalia consistent with heroin use was found near his body.
Over the weekend, police were called to a home at Grant and Jenny Lind Streets in the West End, where a 45-year-old man was found unresponsive in the bathroom by his mother. He was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Vicente says this marks at least a half-dozen overdose deaths in New Bedford since the beginning of the year.
