New Bedford Man Arrested in Connection With Clasky Common Fatal Stabbing
A New Bedford man has been arrested in connection with this morning’s fatal stabbing of an 18-year-old at Clasky Common park.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office announced that Latrell Baskin, 21, of New Bedford has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He is being held without bail pending the results of an August 6 dangerousness hearing in New Bedford District Court.
The D.A.’s Office also identified the victim as Rayshard Normil-Jerome, 18, of New Bedford.
A Massachusetts State Police trooper patrolling near Clasky Common was flagged down by an unidentified female at around 1:24 a.m. Tuesday, and she informed him of a male lying unresponsive in the park. The trooper found Normil-Jerome lying unresponsive and suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Normil-Jerome was declared deceased at St. Luke’s Hospital at 2:02 a.m.
The D.A.’s Office said the investigation remains active and ongoing, and that no further comment can be made at this time.
