It may not be as large as the Whaling City Festival, but the New Bedford Kids Weekend Carnival at Buttonwood Park is still providing families with some mid-summer fun.

The New Bedford Police Union is sponsoring the carnival after the Whaling City Festival Committee was unable to organize enough vendors and entertainment due to a shortened planning period.

Long-time resident Eric Brasidio says what's most important is a fun atmosphere for the family...

This weekend's carnival includes many of the same amusement rides and vendors as the Whaling City Festival, just on a smaller scale. Some staples such as the flea market and car show are missing, but kids looked to be enjoying themselves nevertheless.

The Whaling City Festival Committee was forced to wait until the New Bedford parks Board approved a 9PM closing time in April to start their planning.

Sunday will be the final day of the carnival and it will be open from noon until 8PM.
