NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A multiple-vehicle crash on Route 140 in New Bedford Friday evening claimed the life of a 28-year-old New Bedford woman.

Massachusetts State Police responded to 911 calls at around 5:10 p.m. Friday regarding a multiple-vehicle crash on Route 140 South just prior to Exit 3.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said preliminary investigation shows Julia Luiz was driving a Toyota Camry that became disabled in the left lane. She was outside the vehicle in the roadway when a 63-year-old New Bedford man driving a Toyota RAV4 struck her vehicle.

Moments later, another Camry driven by a 58-year-old Rochester man also struck Luiz’s disabled vehicle.

None of the other drivers were injured.

The D.A.’s Office said no criminal charges have been filed but that the investigation is active and ongoing.
