New Bedford Man Arrested for Alleged Drug and Gun Charges
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A New Bedford man is under arrest after police allegedly found him in possession of drugs, money and an illegal firearm.
According to New Bedford Police, detectives were following up on complaints of drug activity in the area of Hathaway Street near Ashley Boulevard on January 2. At around 6:3 p.m., Detective Sergeant Jonathan Lagoa observed an alleged drug transaction take place, and he then stopped the vehicle of the suspected dealer.
The suspect was identified as Jordan James, 18, of New Bedford.
Police then searched James’ vehicle and his nearby apartment. They reported 27 bags of marijuana weighing approximately 523 grams were discovered, along with 86 grams of psychedelic mushrooms and eight cannabis vapes. They also seized scales, packaging materials, and $1,873 in cash.
Detectives also reportedly located a Polymer 80 handgun loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition in a 13-round magazine.
James was taken into custody by Detective Jonathan Miranda and charged with possession of a high-capacity firearm and ammunition without a license, as well as possession of classes D and C substances with intent to distribute.
