NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — Monday night’s shooting in New Bedford is now being investigated as a homicide after the 21-year-old victim died from his injuries.

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced early Tuesday morning that Kimberl Gedeon, 21, of New Bedford was pronounced deceased not long after he was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds Monday night.

New Bedford Police and EMS responded to the area of Bedford Street and South Seventh Street at about 9:10 p.m. on May 26 for a report of shots fired. First responders arrived to find Gedeon on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital and pronounced deceased a short time later.

Neither New Bedford Police nor the D.A.’s Office have given details about any suspect or if anyone is in custody in connection with the homicide.

The investigation remains “extremely active,” according to the D.A.’s Office, and no further information is being provided at this time.
