UPDATE: The Bristol County District Attorney's Office has identified the victim as Jordan Roman of New Bedford.

NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A 19-year-old was shot and killed in New Bedford last night.

According to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III, New Bedford Police responded to both a ShotSpotter activation and 911 call last night at about 10 p.m. to a reported shooting in the area of Acushnet Avenue near Griffin Court.

Police arrived to find a 19-year-old male in a black Hyundai Sonata parked on the east side of Acushnet Avenue suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The D.A.’s Office said the vehicle also was “found to have multiple projectile strikes.”

The victim was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later. His identity was not yet released.

The D.A.’s Office said the investigation is “extremely active” and being conducted by New Bedford Police, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the D.A.’s Office, and the D.A.’s Office Homicide Unit prosecutors.
