From teacher assaults and vandalism to teacher's union troubles, New Bedford High School spent most of the year in the headlines.

Thursday evening capped off this stressful year of constant media attention for the high school's senior class. Nearly 400 students took part in the graduation ceremonies at Paul Walsh Field in front of a large crowd.

Class valedictorian Halle Berger began her commencement speech by making it clear to them she believes the media has it all wrong.

Berger went on to talk about all the positive accomplishments the senior class has made to the community.

Multiple city officials offered words of wisdom and praise to the class.

The night also marked the final New Bedford High School commencement for Headmaster Andrew Kulak, who will be leaving this month as part of the new turnaround plan.
