New Bedford Police Arrest Two and Take Two Guns Off the Street
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford Police arrested two people, including a juvenile, after they were found allegedly in possession of firearms in the city's South End.
According to police, Detectives Stephanie Connolly and Matthew Couture were investigating street-level narcotics sales in the city’s South End on May 31 when at about 3:30 p.m., they observed two males walking north towards the intersection of South Street and South Second Street.
Police said the two were “wearing heavy clothing and ski masks, with the current temperate outside being 60 degrees.”
The detectives said that when the two males saw the cruiser, “they began to walk at a faster pace and had hidden behind a trash storage on Acushnet Avenue,” according to police.

Detectives made contact with the two – one identified as Tavarus Lamar Veal, 20 of New Bedford, and the other a juvenile – and then checked the trash storage area. Police said they found a black Glock 19 firearm with a high-capacity magazine loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm ammo, with one round in the chamber.
A further search turned up a black Ruger LCP loaded with six rounds of .380-caliber ammo.
Both Veal and the juvenile were arrested and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity feeding device and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
Police said the juvenile was transported to the Brockton Department of Youth Services facility.
