NEW BEDFORD — It was a lucky day on the SouthCoast, after a New Bedford trust won the $1 million prize in a state lottery instant ticket game — on the same day a Middleboro woman also took home a $1 million lottery prize.

Whaler's Investment Trust of New Bedford claimed the top prize in the $1,000,000 Holiday Bonus game on April 6, according to the state lottery website.

Fall River man and Whaler's Investment trustee Peter Saulino accepted the prize on behalf of the trust, which chose the one-time $650,000 payment before taxes.

True to its name, Lucky 7 Mini Mart at 701 Cottage St. in New Bedford sold the winning ticket and will receive a $10,000 bonus for its role.

Also on April 6, Deborah Warren of Middleboro won a $1 million prize in the $4,000,000 Platinum Jackpot instant ticket game.

Instead of the one-time payout, Warren chose to receive $50,000 pre-tax payments every year for the next 20 years.

The big wins come as the latest in a string of good fortune across the SouthCoast so far this month.

Along with the two big prizes, on April 3 someone won a $100,000 prize in the $15 million Money Maker game from a ticket sold at Friendly Farm Convenience Store on Sconticut Neck in Fairhaven.

Then on April 10, another person won the top $100,000 prize from a Mass Cash bet placed at Country Farms on East Main Street in Fall River.
