NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford’s beloved Gary’s Best Hot Dogs is reopening for the 2025 season next week, in what will be the final go-round for owners Joe and Anita Franco.

Gary’s Best will reopen on Monday, March 3 after a winter break that came following the surprising announcement that 2025 would be the final year for the Francos.

“After much thought, and after 40 years in business, total retirement is on our agenda for 2025,” the couple posted to the Gary’s Best Facebook page back on November 15.

Now that they are returning to their hot dog stand, the Francos will also go about finding the right new owners to purchase Gary’s Best and carry it forward into the future.

“We are excited to announce that we will be reopening,” Gary’s Best posted today. “After a much needed hiatus, we look forward to serving our customers and community!”

Gary’s Best will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

It’s been a newsworthy time in the world of hot dogs in recent months. In addition to the Francos’ retirement announcement, Phyl Morgado also retired and closed her Yor Dogg Mil restaurant at the end of 2024.

Then came the news this week that Olneyville N.Y. System in Rhode Island is being sold to Heritage Restaurant Group.
