New Bedford’s New Free Swap Shop Is a Thrifter’s Dream
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — Got something you don’t want anymore but that you think someone else might? Bring it to the brand-new New Bedford Swap Shop.
The New Bedford Department of Facilities and Fleet Management announced Monday the opening of the Swap Shop at the New Bedford Recycling Center, located at 1103 Shawmut Avenue. The Swap Shop is now open and accepting donations of gently-used items, and residents can come and see if there is anything they’d like to take home as well, all free of charge.
“Whether you’re decluttering, upgrading your kitchenware, or simply looking for a good book to read, the Swap Shop offers an easy and sustainable way for residents to share and find items they need,” said Jennifer Vieira, Director of Facilities and Fleet Management.

What Items Can You Bring to New Bedford’s Swap Shop?
Items such as books, tableware (such as dishes and silverware), cookware and bakeware (such as pots, pans and baking sheets) can all be brought to the Swap Shop.
“Items must be clean, functional and in a condition you’d be proud to to give – or pleased to receive,” according to a release.
However, you are limited to three items per day for dropoff, and they must be approved by a Recycling Center attendant. All donations are subject to inspection, and the City reserves the right to refuse any item for any reason.
