Infant Body Discovered at New Bedford’s Fort Taber
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — The decomposing body of a deceased infant was discovered Saturday afternoon at Fort Taber in New Bedford.
According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, New Bedford Police responded at about 12:40 p.m. today to Fort Taber after an adult reported they had been walking along the water at the park and observed a blanket in the area of the walking path and detected an odor of decay.
Police arrived and checked the blanket and discovered the decomposing body of an infant inside of it.
The D.A.’s Office said the body was transported to the Massachusetts Medical Examiner’s Office.
The incident is under active investigation by the D.A.’s Office, Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the D.A.’s Office, and New Bedford Police.
No further information is being released at this time.
