NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford Police detectives arrested a city man and took a firearm off the street recently.

According to police, detectives assigned to the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau were monitoring activity in the city’s North End on Friday, February 28. Detectives stopped a vehicle on Belleville Avenue, just south of Coffin Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Cristhian Joel Gonzalez, 21, of New Bedford.

Police said that detectives searched the vehicle and located a 9mm Taurus firearm loaded with seven rounds of ammunition behind a center display screen in the dashboard.

Gonzalez was arrested and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
