New Bedford Fire chief Michael Gomes has been awarded a three year accreditation by the Mass. Fire Service Commission.

The Commission, chaired by Everett Fire Chief David Butler, says Chief Gomes has displayed the required fire service experience, education, and certifications for accreditation.

Chief Butler says the program establishes benchmarks for training so that chiefs may be better prepared to serve their department and their community.

Chief Gomes says he continues to be dedicated to the highest level of service to New Bedford.  "I've worked hard to continue my education and experience to bring a high level of professionalism to this position," said Gomes
