NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — Authorities have identified the New Bedford man killed in a fatal crash Sunday afternoon.

According to Massachusetts State Police, Jeffrey Szynal, 46, was the victim of the March 10 single-vehicle crash in New Bedford.

At about 3:15 p.m. Sunday, State Police from the Dartmouth barracks responded to the crash, in which a vehicle had struck a utility pole at the end of the off-ramp from Interstate 195 eastbound onto Washburn Street.

Troopers arrived to find Szynal had experienced a medical event and lost consciousness while driving. After attempts to save his life, he was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

State Police said a passenger in the vehicle was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
