
New Bedford Fire Displaces 11, Seriously Injures Woman
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — Eleven people were displaced and a woman seriously injured in a fire Thursday night in New Bedford.
Fire Breaks Out on Elm Street
According to the New Bedford Fire Department, multiple 911 calls came in just after 8:30 p.m. on October 9 reporting a fire on the second floor of 396-398 Elm Street. While en route, firefighters learned that people on the second and third floors needed rescue..
Firefighters Rescue Woman from Third Floor
Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire coming from the second floor of the two-and-a-half-story wood frame home. There was heavy smoke coming from the windows on the second and third floors, with a person in the third floor window.

The woman was rescued by firefighters who were able to make it up the interior stairs. She was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital and is currently being treated for serious injuries, the fire department said.
Eleven Residents Left Without Homes
Eleven people were displaced by the fire and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The fire remains under investigation by the New Bedford Fire Investigation Unit and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
