Remember when the unemployment rate in New Bedford was in double-digits every month? It wasn't that long ago. Slowly but surely, the jobless rate has improved, thanks to the efforts of a handful of public and private sector "players." One of those is Derek Santos, Executive Director of the New Bedford Economic Development Council. He's in charge of a non-stop effort to bring new business into the city, help small businesses get on their feet and assist companies in creating jobs for those who need them. Derek Santos speaks with Jim Phillips this week about the Council's effort to bring new businesses here, what sites New Bedford has available, and what's the next "big thing" for the City of New Bedford.

Townsquare Sunday with Jim Phillips can be heard each Sunday at 6 a.m. on WBSM 1420 and Townsquare Sunday is a weekly public affairs program highlighting non-profits and community organizations in the Greater New Bedford area.
