
New Bedford Police Seize Guns and Drugs in West End Raid
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford Police seized a large amount of drugs and recovered a loaded firearm following a raid at a West End apartment recently.
On September 30, Detective Matthew Couture of the New Bedford Police Department assisted Worcester Police in executing a search warrant at 80 Nemasket Place, Apartment A. The target of the search was Carlons Sanquintin, 27.
What Police Recovered
Inside the apartment, detectives found a Taurus Ultra Lite .38 Special revolver loaded with five rounds, as well as cocaine, MDMA, Percocet, codeine, marijuana, over 24 grams of fentanyl, and over 28 grams of methamphetamine. Digital scales, packaging materials and $2,873 in cash were also seized.
Criminal Charges Filed
Sanquintin was arrested and charged with numerous offenses including trafficking in fentanyl, trafficking in methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm in commission of a felony.
Police said Sanquintin was previously convicted in September 2018 for possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance, along with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm.
Alexis Garcia-Ruberio, 27, was also arrested and charged with the same drug offenses as well as motor vehicle infractions.

Police Chief Responds
“This was great work by our detectives and partner agencies,” New Bedford Police Chief Jason Thody said. “The combination of guns and narcotics poses a serious threat to our community, and this case is an example of how committed we are to keeping New Bedford safe.”
