Dartmouth Man Arrested After CVS, Walgreens Thefts in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford Police arrested a Dartmouth man this morning on multiple charges after he was allegedly found in a stolen vehicle.

Details of the Stolen Vehicle Incident

Police said that this morning at about 4:30 a.m., Officer Nicholas Abbate responded to the CVS Pharmacy on Kempton Street for a report of a stolen motor vehicle. Security footage from inside the store showed a male going behind the counter and taking car keys, along with several other items. He then exited the store and drove out of the parking lot in the stolen vehicle.

The suspect was later identified as Nicholas Ouimet, 33, of Dartmouth.

About an hour and a half later, Officer Abbate received a report of a male slumped over in a vehicle at the intersection of Nemasket Street and Alva Street. He responded to the scene, where police said he found Ouimet inside the vehicle, which was the same one stolen from CVS. A crack pipe and small bag of cocaine were also found.

Connection to Previous Walgreens Robbery

Police said officers then learned Ouimet had allegedly been involved in an unarmed robbery at the Walgreens on Pleasant Street a few hours earlier. During that incident, it is alleged that he approached an employee working at the counter, and when the register was open, he shoved the employee, grabbed cash and fled the scene.

Charges and Outstanding Warrants

Ouimet is charged with unarmed robbery, assault and battery, larceny from a building, shoplifting by asportation, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a Class B drug, operating under the influence of drugs, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended or revoked license. Police said he also had three outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest.
