BARNSTABLE (WBSM) — A New Bedford man was arrested in Barnstable earlier today and charged with allegedly trafficking over a half-kilo of cocaine.

According to a Barnstable Police Facebook post, authorities arrested Nilton Maia, 36, of New Bedford at about 1:45 p.m. today for allegedly trafficking cocaine.

Police said Maia had allegedly traveled to Cape Cod “for the sole purpose of selling illicit narcotics.”

They said he had 580 grams of cocaine in his possession, packaged for wholesale distribution.

Maia is charged with trafficking a Class B substance (cocaine) over 200 grams. He was held at the Barnstable Police Department on $50,000 cash bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Barnstable District Court on Friday.
