New Bedford Police Take Gun and Drugs Off the Street
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford Police detectives made two arrests last Thursday and took guns and drugs off the street.
Blue Meadows Gun Arrest
According to police, on May 8 at about 3 p.m., detectives responded to suspicious activity in the Blue Meadows housing development. Police said after surveillance, the detectives approached a parked vehicle with multiple people inside, at which point a juvenile “was observed attempting to conceal a cross-body bag he had been wearing.”
Inside the bag was a loaded Glock 19 firearm with a high-capacity magazine. Police said the juvenile was taken into custody and held on $10,000 bail.

Hathaway Road Drug Arrest
Shortly after that arrest, police said detectives were monitoring activity in the parking lot of a hotel on Hathaway Road and observed a suspected drug transaction. Detectives followed the vehicle and stopped it at the Nauset Street-Mt. Pleasant Street intersection.
According to police, a search of the vehicle turned up over 41 grams of crack cocaine and $1,914 in cash.
Norman Silva, 25, of New Bedford was arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine in excess of 36 grams.
