New Bedford Man Sentenced for Raping 3-Year-Old Girl
FALL RIVER (WBSM) — A New Bedford man has been sentenced to serve 20 to 25 years in prison after he was convicted of raping a three-year-old girl.
According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, Allen Beckwith, 31, was convicted by a jury in Fall River Superior Court of aggravated rape of a child, domestic assault and battery, and witness intimidation.
The charges date back to November 27, 2021, when the rape victim’s mother walked in on Beckwith, who was the mother’s boyfriend, engaging in oral sex with the young girl in their New Bedford apartment.
The D.A.’s Office said when asked what happened, the toddler immediately told her mother what Beckwith had done to her.
The mother attempted to call 911, but was attacked by Beckwith in an effort to get the phone away from her.
“The defendant engaged in despicable conduct by raping a defenseless little girl,” District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III said.
At the time of the rape, Beckwith was on probation for arson and other charges related to setting fires at the Hyannis fire station construction site in August 2018.
“This defendant clearly is a danger to the community and does not seem to be someone who is capable of being rehabilitated,” Quinn said. “The defendant even continued to threaten the victim and her mother after the court sentenced him.”
