New Bedford Police Investigate West End Shooting, Arrest One
NEW BEDFORD (1420 WBSM) — New Bedford Police are investigating an incident of shots fired in the city’s West End Monday night while also making an arrest during the investigation.
According to police, patrol units responded to a ShotSpotter activation at about 9:30 p.m. on October 10 in the area of Cedar Street and Maxfield Street.
Police said shell casings were discovered in the area, along with damage to a vehicle.
A vehicle of interest was then located in the South End, and when police approached the vehicle, they said the passengers exited the vehicle and fled on foot, while the driver of the vehicle sped away.
The vehicle was then stopped on Interstate 195 eastbound with two individuals inside, an adult driver and a juvenile passenger, police said.
The driver, Ahkari Jones, 27, was taken into custody and charged with “a variety of motor vehicle offenses including failure to stop, operating to endanger, and possession of an open container of alcohol,” according to police.
The investigation into the shots fired incident remains ongoing.
